Configure Scan Filters

•Detect Barcode Breaks - Allows scanning of multiple documents with varying page amounts at once by inserting Break Sheets (Slip Sheets) that contain barcodes between separate documents. These barcodes can indicate either the start of a new document, or a new folder to be created.

•Black Border Removal - Removes black edges from the borders of scanned images. These borders are often the result of the scanner model being used, and will prevent LAW from recognizing blank pages. If these borders are uneven, then they will not be removed automatically, and you may need to adjust the Scan Area in order to correct the issue.

•Drop Blank Pages - Images containing very small pixel ratios (as is typically the case with blank pages of any color) are automatically removed as they're scanned. This is useful when scanning documents containing both double-sided pages and single-sided pages.

•Auto Deskew - Straightens images as they're scanned if they appear crooked or misaligned.

•Hole Removal - Removes visible holes from the images of hole-punched pages. Only standard-sized holes (1/4" - 5/16") are supported.

•Noise Removal - Reduces the amount of dots/specks that can appear randomly on poorly scanned images. This noise often reduces the accuracy of OCR.

•Configure... - This button opens a configuration window for the selected filter (shown below).

Barcode Detection - Properties

This window is also available when importing raw images (from the Barcode Settings window). The following settings are available:

•Check the following symbologies - This is the list of all barcode symbologies that can be detected by LAW. Use the check-boxes to the left of each symbology to determine whether or not LAW should check for them when scanning barcodes.

oSelect All - Selects all available symbologies for detection.

oClear All - Deselects all available symbologies for detection.

•Orientation - Determines which orientation barcodes will appear in, from the following options:

oHorizontal - All barcodes are in a horizontal orientation.

oVertical - All barcodes are in a vertical orientation.

oBoth (Horizontal And Vertical) - Barcodes appear in both horizontal and vertical orientations.

oAll Orientations - Barcodes appear in a variety of orientations, not just limited to horizontal and/or vertical. This is the "catch all" option.

•Decode symbol - Barcode symbols will be translated into ASCII format once detected.

•Use Checksum - The checksum values will be used to verify the integrity of each barcode.

•Enhanced mode - This greatly improves the ability of LAW to detect barcodes at the cost of processing time.

Border Removal - Properties

•Processing Limits - Select the limits that you would like applied during the Border Removal progress.

oUse the same value for all side - uses the value in the Left cell to be applied to all others.

oLeft, Right, Top and Bottom - Allows the user to enter in a custom number that will then perform Border Removal on pages as they are scanned

Blank Page Detection - Properties

This window is also available when importing raw images (from the Import Options window). The following setting is available:

•Sensitivity - Determines the accuracy of blank page detection, from the following options:

oPristine White - Only pages with no markings will be considered as blank. This is useful when working with digitally converted documents, or new spotless pages.

oDirty White - Pages with limited blemishes or marks will still be considered as blank. This is useful when working with scanned pages that have small amounts of speckles, creases, or folds.

oVery Dirty White - Pages that are heavily damaged or blemished, but contain no discernible text or images, will still be considered as blank. This is useful when working with scanned pages that have large stains, heavy creases and folds, or heavy toner streaking.

oOne Line OK - Pages with one localized blemish or mark will still be considered as blank. This is useful when working with scanned pages that have a large fold, a bates stamp, or very limited toner streaks.
