With the release of FYI Server 5.16, the application’s program files are installed under a CloudNine folder. Executing an upgrade of the FYI 5 server application will copy all program data and registry keys from LexisNexis to CloudNine.
The FYI Server 5.15 to FYI Server 5.16 upgrade process does not copy all contents of C:\ProgramData\LexisNexis\FYI Server 5 to C:\ProgramData\CloudNine\FYI Server 5. The copy is limited to the current FYI and admin authentication databases. It also does not delete the FYI Server 5 folder under LexisNexis. Registered databases in the LexisNexis\Databases folder will still be accessible from this location. |
Follow the steps below to upgrade from FYI Server 5.15 to FYI Server 5.16.
1.Back up FYI Server Files - Always back up your FYI Server files before performing any updates to any products or services running on the computer or VM that hosts FYI Server. Stopping and then again starting the FYI Server from the FYI Admin Console automatically and safely creates a backup of the FYI.db file. This copy and the other files in the application’s Program Data folder, especially Admin Authentication.* files, should be backed up to a location outside of the Program Data folder.
For FYI Server versions 5.16 and above, the FYI.db, its backups, the Admin Authentication.* and other files are now typically* located here:
C:\ProgramData\CloudNine\FYI Server 5
For FYI Server versions 5.15 and earlier, these files are typically located here:
C:\ProgramData\LexisNexis\FYI Server 5
*Program Data files may optionally be installed in a custom folder location. Be sure to backup all files from custom file locations. For more information, see Backups and Data Recovery.
Make sure that you regularly back up your server data, including databases, images, and CPL programs, and ensure users also regularly back up their data on the workstations. The most important file to backup is FYI.DB. Do not upgrade Concordance FYI Server unless server data and workstation data has been backed up. Do not perform live backups if you are using backup software that locks files, even briefly. This has been known to cause read/write functions to the database files to fail causing file synchronization or corruption issues. Check with your IT group and/or backup solution provider to verify that no file locking occurs before scheduling any backups on Concordance, Concordance Image, and FYI files that are in use. Be aware that anti-virus, firewall, and backup software can often interfere with network traffic and locking of files, and in effect, could cause Concordance, Concordance Image, and FYI Server software to crash. Whether you are updating versions of FYI Server, Concordance, FYI Reviewer or third-party products on the server that hosts FYI Server, you need to back up your FYI Server files first. Often administrators run patches on their servers and reboot without stopping and starting FYI services to back up the FYI.db file. Doing so is a common cause for file corruption of the FYI.db file that would require entering the entire configuration for all clients, matters, databases, users and settings from scratch. Additionally, the FYI Server should be stopped while you perform non-FYI updates, otherwise you risk corruption to the FYI Server files. |
2.Upgrade the FYI Server – be sure to have the FYI Server and FYI Admin Console services running before initiating the upgrade. Also be sure that the FYI Admin Console and the Microsoft Services and all File Explorer windows are closed. Run the FYI Server 5.16 installation file “as administrator.”
3.Verify the upgrade - Logon to the FYI Admin Console and verify that the updated version number is showing on the Server tab. Also verify that Clients, Matters, Databases and Users appear as they were before the upgrade on the Management tab; that the licenses listed on the Licenses tab are correct; and that any scheduled jobs and the settings on the settings tab appear as they were.
If any errors occurred during the upgrade, please contact Concordance Technical Support for assistance in recovery of the upgrade.
If you have an earlier version of FYI Server installed, or if you have questions regarding version compatibility, contact your CloudNine sales representative or Concordance Technical Support. Concordance Technical Support can also be scheduled to assist with your upgrade or assist with troubleshooting should any errors occur.
